Perrysburg , OH – February 19, 2025. Nerdy Pup Games announced the retail release of Super Squad High, a new board game inspired by teen superhero comics and “lifesim” video games.
Super Squad High is a cooperative board game where players work together as teen superheroes, contending with their social lives and the academic demands of being a student, as well as fighting crime. Players manage their time through limited actions in a day-night cycle, balancing schoolwork on a grades track, relationships with classmate characters, and fighting crime cards that threaten neighborhoods on the game board.
The game takes a novel approach to social encounters. To discover the hidden villain, players must learn personal traits of non-player classmates, then use what they learn in narrative social challenges called “meetups”. During a meetup, a player gives creative answers to narrative prompts read to them by another player, aiming to give answers that match the classmate traits they have learned. A successful meetup forms a relationship, which helps the players reveal clue cards that point to the true identity of the villain.
“My goal in designing the game is to explore dramatic elements of superhero stories that are present in comics and tv shows, but are largely ignored by other board game adaptations,” said Michael Addison, creator of Super Squad High. “Superheroes are much more relatable when they struggle with their relationships, or end up late to class or behind on homework. We want players to feel like a year-one hero learning to balance their lives, and feel triumphant when they sort out their hero’s life and defeat the villain.”
Super Squad High is for 1 to 4 players, ages 14 or older and takes approximately 30 minutes per player to play. It includes a fully illustrated game board, 4 sets of original wooden hero meeples and other wooden player pieces, 8 silkscreen printed dice, 4 player boards, 164 cards, over 100 punchboard tokens, a cloth draw bag, and a rulebook.
